The driving bit also called liverpool has 2 or 3 reins slots. This jawpiece is used specifically for driving and harnessing. This jawpiece allows the driver to adjust the leverage from none to heavy. The lower the reins are placed the sharper the bit. The jawpiece with two reins slots therefore has a milder leverage than the 3 lock driving bit.
The single-jointed bit has one pivot point which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double-jointed mouthpiece. A single-broken mouthpiece acts primarily on the layers, the side of the tongue and can also act on the palate. A single-broken mouthpiece is considered a standard mouthpiece.
Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a recognizable blue color. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture that tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the horse's salivation. This will cause the horse to foam more, which improves acceptance of the bit. This rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue color of TRUST bits to brownish gray.
