The driving bit also called liverpool has 2 or 3 reins slots. This jawpiece is used specifically for driving and harnessing. This jawpiece allows the driver to adjust the leverage from none to heavy. The lower the reins are placed the sharper the bit. The jawpiece with two reins slots therefore has a milder leverage than the 3 lock driving bit.
The double jointed bit has two hinge points, is shaped more to the mouth and lies a little looser in the mouth. This bit works on the tongue, layers and corners of the mouth. Be careful with narrow mandibles, the hinge points can press on the layers which can cause wounds. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit acts more on the tongue. A double jointed bit is a standard mouthpiece.
The Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a recognizable blue color. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture that tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the horse's salivation. This will cause the horse to foam more, which improves acceptance of the bit. This rusting process (oxidation) changes the blue color of TRUST bits to brownish gray.
